Arizona basketball, not just USC, is in transfer portal limbo – Trojans Wire

It has been conspicuous that USC basketball hasn’t landed a splashy transfer portal player for the 2023 season. However, as we have been telling you, it’s not yet time for the Trojans or a lot of other programs to make their move.

If you’re still not convinced that USC’s stagnation offers no real cause for concern — at least not right now — consider the point that Arizona and other prominent Pac-12 programs are going through the same challenges, as Jon Wilner of the San Jose Mercury News explains:

When you sketch the ideal situation for NIL as it was intended (i.e., endorsement opportunities based on accomplishments for a specific team), the canvass looks a lot like Arizona: A highly-successful team that dominates a local market free of professional sports.

There should be no shortage of NIL deals for the Wildcats and, in fact, an Arizona donor collective was established in February.

Lloyd hasn’t added players through the portal, yet. But there’s still time — much more time for rosters to settle in basketball than football because of the competitive calendar.

Let’s check back on Arizona’s roster in early June, after the NBA Draft withdrawal deadline and after the portal settles.

Our guess is Lloyd will have backfilled successfully.

We also expect Andy Enfield to backfill with success.

More than Arizona? That’s the big (open) question.
