Georgia basketball: The ladies even steal outstanding Florida players – Dawn of the Dawg

Georgia basketball is working on signing their latest recruiting classes, and the women are following in the football team’s footsteps by signing the Florida Player of the Year, Stefanie Ingram.

Something about snagging top-rated athletes out of the Sunshine State makes us happy, and it continues through the ladies’ basketball program.

Ingram signed with the Dawgs on Wednesday, and she is a massive pick-up for new head coach Katie Abrahamson-Henderson.

Georgia basketball sees women snag top player out of Florida.

Ingram played at  Lake Highland Prep, where she helped lead them to back-to-back state championships. Last year they went 19-0 for a perfect season.

She averaged around 10 points a game, 4.2 rebounds, and had 97 total assists and 53 steals.

In the state title game, Ingram posted a double-double of 14 points and 10 boards to help get the victory over Lincoln Park.

She was one of the biggest prospects in the country, and Georgia landed her. Lake Highland ranked No.3 in the country according to espnW, so for Georgia to get her is a massive deal.

No one really knew how it would go when Joni Taylor left the program, but so far, Coach Abe has been great, and this really elevates what she has made happen in her first few months on the job.

With her coming from UCF, she knows how to recruit the Sunshine State, which possibly played into Georgia signing Ingram.

It proves that the University of Georgia has something unique, and these Florida athletes want to be part of it.

The women’s program wasn’t in bad shape as the men’s, but there was a lot of unknown when Taylor left. However, this program hasn’t skipped a beat and seeing Coach Abe get her makes us happy.

Georgia basketball could see its women’s program maintain the high standard set for them with this new coach, which is exciting.

The Lady Dogs needed a spark, and this signee gave them a burst of momentum for the summer. Seeing the basketball program land a highly touted player also helps make the offseason go by quicker.
