Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 100th Premier League goal for Manchester United in their 3-1 defeat by Arsenal on Saturday.
Ronaldo, 37, scored 84 top-flight goals for United between 2003 and 2009 before his then record-breaking transfer from United to Real Madrid for £80 million.
Ronaldo celebrated his century of goals by raising his hand to the sky. His appearance at The Emirates was the first following the death of his baby son.
Arsenal fans showed solidarity with the Portugal international by applauding during the seventh minute.
Nuno Tavares opened the scoring for the hosts after just two minutes. Defensive blunders by United allowed him to slot home a looping ball at the back post.
Bukayo Saka doubled Arsenal’s lead from the penalty spot 30 minutes later. Ronaldo scored his 100th Premier League goal to give United a good chance of fighting back.
Bruno Fernandes had the chance to draw United level with a spot kick. The Portugal international, however, fired his shot off the post.
Ronaldo came close to scoring his 101st Premier League goal, too, but his smart finish was disallowed after VAR ruled him offside before Granit Xhaka made it three with an impressive long-range shot.
Ronaldo’s most prolific season at United saw him score 31 goals and provide seven assists in 34 league games in the 2007-08 season.
Ronaldo will enter into the final year of his contract with United next season with the option to extend for a further year. He rejoined the Premier League titans last summer after three seasons at Juventus.
