Caleb Love earns place in UNC basketball museum – Keeping It Heel

Caleb Love’s huge three-pointer against Duke in the Final Four will always be remembered among the greatest moments in UNC basketball history.

It’s safe to say that fans of the UNC basketball program will always remember the final minute of play in the Tar Heels’ first-ever Final Four battle with rival Duke.

With 25-seconds left to play, Caleb Love hit a huge three-pointer, over the outstretched hand of Duke big man Mark Williams, to secure the Tar Heels’ spot in the national championship contest.

It was a big moment for Love, who certainly is not afraid of the spotlight. The then-sophomore guard scored 28 points en route to helping his team not only eliminate Duke from the tournament but also to end the coaching career of Mike Krzyzewski in the process.

This is a major moment in UNC basketball history and is one that the program already wishes to acknowledge among its already illustrious pedigree.

The Carolina Basketball museum has a new addition, as the program has added the above marker on the floor. If you haven’t seen the museum yet, the main part has flooring that matches the half-court appearance of the Dean Smith Center, as there are markers indicating the biggest shots in program history as you walk around the room.

This addition just adds to how important this shot is already regarded by the UNC basketball program.

Not only is it the latest addition, but is also one of the most impressive shots when you look at the distance of it.

Love’s shot marker is the farthest away from the basket of all of the included shots. It surpassed the previously farthest marker for the infamous Marcus Paige’s game-tying shot against Villanova in the 2016 national title game.

Not only was Love’s shot added to the museum, but the sign near the entrance has been updated to show that the UNC basketball program has now been to 21 total Final Fours.

Of course, this is a special moment for Love, but we’re certain that he hopes to add to his and his teammates’ legacy by bringing home a title before his time in Chapel Hill concludes.
