There is no denying that the Indian Premier League (IPL) is the biggest T20 league in the world of cricket. Often regarded as the domestic cricket’s biggest extravaganza, the IPL is organised annually by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) which is also the richest cricket board. Legendary cricketer and former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly, who is the president of the apex Indian board, has come up with a massive claim about the celebrated T20 league.
According to the president of the BCCI, the IPL generates more revenue than the English Premier League (EPL). Dubbed as one of the toughest leagues in club football, the EPL is the top-tier tournament in the English football league system. Speaking to Deepak Lamba (CEO, Worldwide Media, President, Times Strategic Solutions Limited) at the India Leadership Council Event, Ganguly said that he is pleased to see the IPL generating more revenue than the English top flight.

“I’ve seen the game evolve, where players like me earned a few hundreds and now have the potential of earning crores. This game is run by the fans, by the people of this country, and by the BCCI, which was formed by cricket fans. This sport is strong and will continue to evolve. The IPL generates more revenue than the English Premier League. It makes me feel happy and proud that the sport I love has evolved to become so strong,” Ganguly said.

The successful bidders will be given the official rights to broadcast matches of the world’s richest T20 league – the IPL. Earlier, the celebrated T20 league became a 10-team tournament in the 15th season. Debutants Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated 2008 winners Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL 2022 final last month.
